Inside the Daytona.
Few watches carry a name the way the Daytona does. Conceived for the racetrack — a chronograph to read elapsed time and, with its tachymetric scale, average speed — it long ago outgrew the circuit to become one of the most recognised objects in the world.
This is the reference 126500LN: forty millimetres of Oystersteel, the tachymeter moved onto a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel that will not fade or scratch, and a dial offered in two faces — lacquered black, or the lacquered white ‘panda’ with contrasting counters that collectors chase hardest.
Underneath sits the calibre 4131 — Rolex’s own chronograph movement, with a vertical clutch and column wheel for a clean start, and roughly seventy-two hours of autonomy. It is the quiet part: the watch you can wear every day and pass on to someone who will do the same.
